Google's revolutionary generative search experience? Not here. Not even a year later. Meta Ray-Ban smart AI glasses? Nope. Can't buy them. Can't even use them when you get them shipped here. Even Apple announced that the Apple Intelligence and SharePlay features will not be available at launch in Europe. Why is Europe missing out?
You've got regulators who are getting way ahead of what technology can actually do and litigating based on a fear of, you know, what some doomers are saying. You're going to be a little bit later to get technology.
EU regulators are like the top AI experts, knowing exactly how it will develop. Even before imagining all the use cases. Not to mention the previous archaic standards for EV charging or consumer electronics charging that started with micro USB, ended up with USB-C, or even the more recent cookie banner example that ruined all our web experience. And the consequences are real: missed innovation, lost investment, and a brain drain of tech talent and companies. But it doesn't have to be this way.
Europe has the brains, top research and education institutions. It's time to catch up. Let's push for smarter regulation, support the innovators, and embrace the AI revolution.
