Making apps: a new kind of show business
Oct 30, 2025 · 2:16
The video outlines the historical pattern of media platforms like blogs, YouTube, Instagram, and TikTok evolving from low quality content into massive creator economies. It explores how AI tools like Replit, Bolt, and Lovable enable non-engineers to build software through natural language prompts. The host connects this trend to the rise of vibe coding, predicting that AI app builders will form the next major class of creative developers.
Historical cycle of new creative media
The host compares the current perception of AI slop to early dismissals of YouTube, blogs, Instagram, and TikTok, showing how amateur platforms consistently evolve into massive creator economies.
Software and app creation as the next creator wave
The discussion pivots to AI app building platforms like Replit, Bolt, and Lovable, illustrating how natural language prompt tools are empowering non-engineers to create software.
Rise of vibe coding and the new developer class
The host examines niche app generation, quotes predictions on vibecoding, and compares current AI app builders to early YouTube creators who went on to define cultural shifts.
Everyone is calling AI videos slop, AI apps slop, AI music slop.
Just an endless dribble of computer-generated nonsense that no one cares about.
But you know what else was called slop? YouTube videos in 2005. Stupid cat videos made by kids in their bedroom. But here's the pattern: every transformative creative medium gets dismissed as trash at first until it changes the world and how we create, share, and consume. Blogs, these were just online diaries by amateurs and no one would read them. Now they're the backbone of independent journalists and media brands. Instagram: these are just hipster selfies with cringe filters and no one cares what you had for lunch.
Now it's a $24 billion influencer economy. TikTok: these are just dancing teens. Now it's the global stage that sets every trend and TikTok Shop drives globally $33 billion with 120% growth in the US. While history doesn't repeat, it rhymes. New tech makes creation easier and more accessible, everybody floods in, quality looks terrible, critics and pros mock it, new creator class emerges, and a complete cultural takeover in 3 to 5 years, almost every single time.
So what's the next slop that becomes everything, you ask? Building apps and writing code. 15 Years ago, YouTube proved that the world was short on video content. We just didn't know it because only TV studios could make it. Now 500 hours is uploaded every minute. Today, the world is short of software and apps. We just don't know it because only engineers can build it. Until now. Tools like Replit, Bolt, Lovable, and Google AI Studio let you build working apps just by describing what you want.
Zero coding knowledge needed. Replit went from $2.8 to $150 million in revenue in under a year, and Lovable became the fastest-growing software company ever with $100 million in annual run rate in just 8 months. People are building manifestation apps, bespoke workout apps, warranty trackers, movie discovery, games, apps and categories that cost $50,000 2 years ago and couldn't be justified because of the small niche. Google's head of AI Studio estimates that everyone will be vibecoding games by the end of 2025 and that this will be the unlock for the next 100 million developers.
This is the YouTube moment for software and then games. The generators, people who build apps as content, are emerging right now. Just like early YouTubers looked ridiculous and weren't taken seriously by studios, vibe coders building AI apps today are looked at like amateurs by developers. But in 3 years, they will be the new rock stars, the cool kids that are already building. Let me know below if you're already building as well.
