The presenter shares his experience purchasing a sealed pair of counterfeit AirPods Max on Facebook Marketplace. Although the serial number showed valid coverage on the Apple website and triggered an authentic iOS connection prompt, testing the headphones revealed cheap build materials and poor sound quality.
Buying counterfeit AirPods Max on Facebook Marketplace
The presenter shares how he purchased a seemingly authentic, sealed pair of AirPods Max on Facebook Marketplace after verifying the serial number on Apple's website.
Unboxing, poor quality, and deceptive software pairing
Upon putting them on, the host notices cheap materials, clicky buttons, and horrible sound, despite an authentic-looking iOS connection popup fooling his phone.
Ever been scammed? Well, I just got hit hard thinking scams would not work on me, and it's unreal how sophisticated it was. I snagged these brand new AirPods Max on Facebook Marketplace for a steal. The seller seems legit, the serial number on the box and the purchase date checked out on Apple's website, and the box was sealed. I was excited. When opening the box, the cables, case all looked exactly the same as the original ones. But as soon as I started putting them on, something felt off.
The materials were soft, The buttons were clicky, and the sound was just horrible. I realized I'd been fooled. These fakes are very well made. They look and feel real, even when connecting them to my phone. The official Apple headphones exclusive popup comes up, so my phone was also completely tricked into thinking they are the real deal. It's terrifying to think how many people probably buy these fakes thinking they got a good deal and would never realize they're using a cheap, low-quality product.
